Yamaha boss does not accept that Fabio Quartararo has been sentenced to a penalty
Ligaosport.com –

MotoGP News: Yamaha boss, Lin Jarvis, expresses disappointment at Fabio Quartararo’s penalty when trying to overtake Aleix Espargaro at Assen.

Fabio Quartararo is now a byword after falling twice in the Dutch MotoGP last weekend. However, the discussion is not about the accident he experienced, but the incident at Turn 5 of the Assen Circuit.

While trying to recover his position, while closing the gap with Francesco Bagnaia, Quartararo tried to crush Aleix Espargaro as the race entered Lap 5. But unlucky for him, the maneuver made by the 2021 MotoGP champion actually caused him to fall and sent Espargaro off the track.

In the aftermath of the incident, the FIM MotoGP Steward Panel then punished Quartararo with a long lap penalty which he must live in the next series, the British MotoGP at Silverstone on 7 August.

Tuesday (28/6), Yamaha boss, Lin Jarvis, released an official statement containing his response to the FIM’s decision against Quartararo which he considered unfair.

“Fabio Quartararo, Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team and Yamaha always strive for fairness and sportsmanship in MotoGP. We are disappointed to see the inequalities of punishment applied by the FIM MotoGP Steward Panel,” Jarvis said as quoted by Motorsport.com.

“We would like to appeal Steward’s decision on Sunday in Assen, but this type of sentence is not open to discussion or appeal.”

“We would then like to raise the matter, in principle, with CAS (the Court of Arbitration for Sport), but such an issue is also not open to appeal.”

“It is precisely for this reason that the right, balanced and consistent decisions must be taken by the Steward from the start and carried out within the correct and reasonable time frame,” continued the man from England.

In a statement released, Yamaha also explained a number of reasons as a form of disapproval of the long lap penalty given to Fabio Quartararo.

“While Quartararo admitted to making a mistake at Turn 5 at the TT Assen Circuit on Lap 5, Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP sees this as a racing incident. Quartararo has a reputation as a clean racer, with no track record of previous incidents. It was an honest mistake with no malicious intent,” the statement read.

“Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP acknowledges that Aleix Espargaro’s race was affected, but the severity of the impact is a matter of conjecture. Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP feels the FIM MotoGP Steward Panel measures the severity of a race incident with inconsistent subjective standards.”

“The inconsistent penalties imposed by the FIM MotoGP Steward Panel during the 2022 season undermine the fairness of MotoGP and confidence in the jurisdiction of the Stewards. There have been at least three more serious racing incidents in the MotoGP Class (resulting in a rider being knocked out of the race and/or causing injury) that have been left unanswered.”
