Simona Halep Reaches 40 Million US Dollars In Prize Money

[ad_1] –

Tennis News: Simona Halep joins Serena and Venus Williams as the women’s tennis player with more than $40 million in prize money.

Last weekend, the Romanian won the Canadian Open (Rogers Cup) in Toronto and earned $439,700 in prize money, enough to help him achieve his own financial milestone.

Heading into this week’s Cincinnati Open (Western & Southern Open), the former world number 1 has pocketed a total of 40,107,097 US dollars, 2 million US dollars adrift of Venus who has 42,300,728 million US dollars in her career to date. Meanwhile, Serena pocketed twice as much as her sister by recording $94,606,355 million in prize money.

Including men’s players, only seven players have won more prize money than Halep in their careers. Novak Djokovic occupied the top position with prize money reaching 158,996,253 million US dollars. While Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Serena complete the top four of the list.

Starting this week’s Cincinnati Open, the player who has won two Grand Slam titles continues where he left off in Toronto. The 15th seed defeated Anastasia Potapova 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 after 2 hours 11 minutes in the first round.

With the win, the Romanian, who spent 64 weeks as world number 1, now has seven wins in a row and earlier this week, he returned to the top 10 after more than a season of being knocked out of the rankings.

“When I started the season I wasn’t very confident and I set a target, that by the end of the season I would be back in the top 10,” Halep said after the win in Toronto.

“And I’m here. So this is a very special moment. I will enjoy it. I will only dream of more things.”

That could happen this week in Cincinnati, where Halep is runner-up twice in the tournament. She will next face unseeded Veronika Kudermetova in the second round before having a chance to meet third seed Paula Badosa in the last 16.
