Badminton News : Men’s doubles pair, Aaron Chia /Soh Wooi Yik will have to stay hungry as they try to end their title wait at the open tournament.
The world number six pair, who ended Malaysia’s 16-year wait by winning the men’s doubles gold medal at the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines, are now busy devising the best strategy to make their dreams come true in front of their home fans at the Malaysia Open 2022 which will take place from 28 June-3 July. ..
“Coach Rexy (national doubles coaching director) says we have to be more ‘hungry’ to win every game because obviously when we are in the semifinals or finals, maybe we think too much so we don’t focus. in that game,” said Aaron.
“Actually, in every tournament we’ve been in, we’ve always felt this is the time (to win) but many times it’s not enough. We’ll still try… It’s not easy to win but that’s what we have to face.”
The 25-year-old is excited to play in front of the home crowd at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil and hopes to have full support.
“I hope the fans will continue to support us and hope we can do our best at the Malaysia Open so as not to let them down,” he said.
He also hopes to make up for the defeat in the second round of last year’s Denmark Open against Akira Koga/Taichi Saito of Japan in the first round of the Malaysia Open.
Aaron/Wooi Yik failed to show their best game in the 18-21 and 13-21 defeat to the world number 75 from China, Liu Yuchen/Ou Xuanyi in the semifinals of the Indonesia Open last week.
