Premier League News: Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez deserves a five-match ban for headbutting Crystal Palace’s Joachim Anderson in his side’s 1-1 draw on Monday (15/08), according to talkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy.
The Reds face the Eagles after drawing 2-2 against Fulham in their Premier League opener. Nunez came on as a substitute against the Cottagers, but started against Palace at Anfield.
Liverpool fell behind to a Wilfried Zaha goal in the 32nd minute, with the front three of Mohamed Salah, Nunez and Luis Diaz looking sluggish in play especially in the first half. Their task was made even more difficult when the Reds’ new striker headbutted Andersen and got himself sent off.
The Uruguay international was provoked by the Denmark centre-back inside the Palace penalty area when the ball went out of play. The assailant turned and headbutted Andersen, who fell to the ground.
According to Cundy, who played for Chelsea from 1988 to 1992, the former SL Benfica striker deserves a more severe punishment than a three-match ban.
He told talkSPORT: “I personally think he will get more than three bans, I think he will get a bigger ban. What he did tonight is a disgrace. What a shame. I think he should get five bans. matches. There was violent behavior going on there.”
