French League News: Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti has his own views on the penalty shootout incident between Kylian Mbappe and Neymar Jr in the second Ligue 1 match against Montpellier last weekend.
Paris Saint-Germain’s 5-2 win over Montpellier last weekend was slightly tarnished by a penalty shootout between Kylian Mbappe and Neymar Jr. Mbappe, who missed the first penalty awarded to PSG in the 23rd minute, again wanted to be the executor when they were awarded another penalty in the 43rd minute. But Neymar had already taken the ball and brought it to the spot.
In the end Neymar remained the second penalty taker after being involved in a conversation with Mbappe. Even though he finally resigned, the facial expression of the French striker seemed to show disappointment.
Regarding the incident, Marco Verratti considered that what Mbappe was doing was a natural thing. For him Mbappe is someone who always wants to do things as well as possible.
“Kylian is a player who always wants to do well. I think with the missed penalty he sulked a little bit, but that’s normal, he’s a great player, he always wants to make a difference and when he misses something he’s disappointed, that’s normal,” Verratti told Le Parisien.
“But then he showed it with the first goal where he was decisive and then with another goal (which he scored). But I am happy when he is angry, because it means he cares a lot about this team, that he wants to do something well, that he wants to make a difference,” he added.
