Badminton News : Mark Lamsfuss / Marvin Seidel from Germany are aiming to achieve something no other men’s doubles pair from their country has ever done before which is winning a World Championship medal.
Mark Lamsfuss / Marvin Seidel (world No. 13), currently the second highest-ranked European pair behind Danish pair Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen (No. 9), are not afraid to dream big and have recorded some big name wins such as the world champions Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan (Denmark Open 2021) and the national pair No. 1 Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik (Swiss Open 2021).
They are hoping for more surprises at this year’s World Championships which will take place in Tokyo from August 21-28.
Yesterday, Lamsfuss/Siedel defeated world number 42 from South Korea, Kang Min-hyuk/Seo Seung-jae 21-17, 21-18 in the first round of the 2022 Malaysia Masters.
They have a good chance of reaching the quarter-finals as they will face Taiwan’s world number 24 pair, Lu Ching-yao/Yang Po-han in the second round.
“If we continue to perform like we did in the first round, then we have a chance to win a medal at the World Championships, which is our biggest goal this year.”
“Korea is a good pair and we have to be consistent and keep beating pairs like them to put us in the best position to challenge for medals,” said Lamsfuss.
They also want to do well at the Singapore Open from 12-17 July before focusing entirely on preparations for the 2022 World Championships.
The German pair’s quest for a medal could depend on their preparation from now until then.
