Transfer News: Leicester City midfielders James Maddison and Harvey Barnes are reportedly on Newcastle United’s target list this summer.
Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison is the latest player to be rumored to be on Newcastle United’s list of targets this summer.
The club nicknamed The Magpies is indeed looking for new players who are positioned in the attack line. Previously, the likes of Leeds United’s Jack Harrison and Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby had been heavily linked with Newcastle.
And now, reported by The Telegraph, James Maddison is reportedly also included in the target list of Eddie Howe’s team.
Newcastle are even rumored to have made an offer to Leicester in the range of 35-40 million pounds.
However, the Foxes considered this figure too low for a player of Maddison’s caliber and rejected the offer. Newcastle are reportedly set to return for the 25-year-old midfielder with a higher offer, while discussions continue.
But apart from Maddison, the club based at St James Park is eyeing other Leicester players as an alternative option. Newcastle are reportedly also interested in Harvey Barnes, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The 24-year-old winger is also reportedly on Newcastle’s target list. But Leicester are reportedly reluctant to sell the winger who is believed to be priced in the range of £60 million, with Barnes having just signed a new contract at the King Power Stadium last season, which is still due to expire in 2025.
Neither Maddison nor Barnes are important players in Brendan Rodgers’ squad. They performed well last season in the midst of a difficult season for Leicester due to injury storms and Covid-19.
Barnes managed 11 goals and 14 assists in 48 appearances, and Maddison scored 18 goals and 12 assists in 53 appearances across all competitions last season.
