However, Kidambi Srikanth and women’s doubles Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand lost in their respective semifinals. They are not yet out of the medal race and will compete in the bronze medal race on Monday (8/8).
Lakshya Sen beats Singapore’s Jia Heng Teh in a thriller
World number 10 Lakshya Sen performed well in the men’s singles semifinal match. The 20-year-old overcame a tough challenge from Singapore’s Jia Heng Teh to enter his maiden final with a 21-10, 18-12 and 21-16 win in a thrilling match-up.
Sindhu beat Yeo Jia Min in a tense battle
PV Sindhu entered the women’s singles final after firing another Singaporean player. Two-time Olympic medalist Sindhu surpassed world number 18 Yeo Jia Min 21-19, 21-17 to advance to a second consecutive Commonwealth Games final.
The Gold Coast Games silver medalist faced a tough challenge in the semifinals but went on to win the match with a brilliant performance under pressure. The 27-year-old Hyderabadi will play a gold medal match against Michelle Li of Canada on Monday.
Kidambi Srikanth, meanwhile, lost 21-13, 19-21 and 10-21 to Malaysia’s Ng Tze Yong, whom he faced just days ago in the final of the mixed team tournament.
Srikanth had to play a bronze medal match against Jia Heng Teh.
