German League News: Manchester City’s mainstay midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan, believes that Bayern Munich’s young player, Jamal Musiala, is the future of the German national team. This he said following the extraordinary performance shown by the 19-year-old player.
Throughout the 2021/22 season, Jamal Musiala managed to make a significant impact with the Bayern Munich senior team, where he scored eight goals and contributed six assists in 40 competitive appearances. His slick appearance also earned him frequent calls to the senior German national team, and at a fairly young age he has managed to make 11 international caps with Der Panzer.
“Musiala is the future of German football, with the likes of [Karim] Adeyemi, [Nico] Schlotterbeck and David Raum,” said Ilkay Gundogan, quoted from the Bundesliga page.
“He’s incredibly talented, and has come a long way in his development for a player of his age.”
Musiala and Gundogan had become the main choices in the midfield of the German national team under Hans Flick, in a friendly match against the Netherlands in March. What is an added value for Musiala is the flexibility of his game, where in addition to being proficient in playing the role of an attacking midfielder, he can also be placed as a defensive midfielder. In the 2021/22 season, he made 14 appearances as a defensive midfielder.
“Jamal’s quality in possession of the ball is unquestionable. His movement is incredible and even if it’s a little, he’s very strong in the tackle. He has used his body very intelligently.”
