Honda will soon determine the fate of Takaaki Nakagami –

MotoGP News: Honda boss Alberto Puig admits that he will soon decide the fate of Takaaki Nakagami (LCR Honda) and focus on preparing for the upcoming 2023 season.

Until now, it is still unknown who will complete the line-up of riders for the Honda satellite team, LCR, for MotoGP 2023. They have only chosen one new rider, namely Alex Rins.

Meanwhile Alex Marquez has decided to move to Gresini Racing. It’s a choice between keeping Takaaki Nakagami or bringing in Moto2 rider, Ai Ogura.

Nakagami’s fate is currently on the line because of his minor appearance throughout the 2022 MotoGP. He was only able to occupy P16 in the drivers’ standings with 42 points. In addition, the rider often fails to finish due to a fall.

On the other hand Ogura, performed brilliantly in the Moto2 event by being in P3 standings. Should he become world champion, Honda boss Alberto Puig has considerations to bring him to MotoGP.

But on the other hand, Puig is reluctant to wait too long to make a decision. He confirmed that he would make an announcement as soon as possible to focus on preparing for the 2023 season.

“We have to think carefully about this transfer. If Ai Ogura wins the Moto2 World Championship, it means something. Because Moto2 is a difficult class,” said Puig as quoted by Corsedimoto.

“As a world champion, you may have a chance in MotoGP. But we have to make a decision in the summer and we can’t wait until October.”
