Premier League News: Former Liverpool star Glen Johnson feels that Man United made a mistake by signing Casemiro from Real Madrid.
The 30-year-old star has signed a contract with Man United until 2026, with the option of an extension for another year, in a transfer that could rise to £70 million.
United introduced the Brazilian midfielder at Old Trafford before United face Liverpool on Monday (22/8). On that occasion the new player received a warm welcome from the Red Devils fans, even from club legend, Roy Keane.
But according to Glen Johnson, United have made a mistake by signing Casemiro, because he is a ‘luxury’ that does not suit Old Trafford.
“It’s tough because he’s a great player who has won everything there is to win,” Johnson told Bettingodds.com.
“But I don’t think he’s the kind of player they need at the moment.
“I don’t think he’ll be able to control the game. He’s not a box-to-box player, he’ll just sit there, and that’s a luxury they haven’t been able to enjoy at the moment.
“It’s okay for him to do that at Real Madrid when there are good players around him, breaking games and getting the ball back, but I don’t know if that’s what United need.
“It is clear that he is a good player and he will bring his great experience. It will probably be a transfer the other players want to see, but he will not be able to improve the team alone.”
