MotoGP News: Fabio Quartararo admits that he has given all his strength throughout the San Marino MotoGP race, but he still lost quickly to the rivals in front of him.
Last weekend’s San Marino MotoGP series could be regarded as a struggle for survival for Fabio Quartararo. Starting from P8, the young man nicknamed El Diablo started the race well before finally overtaking Aleix Espargaro.
Since then, he has continued to occupy P5. But Quartararo could no longer keep up with the rivals advancing in front of him. The 2021 MotoGP champion finished with a gap of five seconds behind Francesco Bagnaia who successfully won victory at Misano.
“I’m really at my limit. I was a bit frustrated throughout the race because I gave 100 per cent and couldn’t fight for a better position.”
“We have to examine what caused it in the end. My speed is almost the same as in training. However, overtaking other riders is impossible,” the 23-year-old added.
“No problem, period. When I was behind the Ducati I was able to brake normally. I feel comfortable on the bike, that’s the funny thing. I’m not bad, but only ranked fifth. Even when I was very close to (Luca) Marini, I couldn’t overtake,” he explained.
In contrast to him, Franceco Bagnaia again appeared solid in the San Marino MotoGP. Starting from fifth, the Ducati factory team rider was able to set foot on the highest podium steps again, for the fourth time in a row.
Although Bagnaia continues to chase him in the standings and is now only 30 points adrift, Fabio Quartararo is trying to stay calm.
“I’m not worried, but I’m not calm either. After a good race, I was 5 seconds behind the winner. Not a good position. I’m just more consistent than Pecco, our pace is too slow,” said the French rider.
“(Furthermore) Aragon will be very difficult. But then came Japan, Thailand and others. Haven’t been there in a long time. Hopefully we can surprise,” he added.
“I did a good job, I’ve reached the limit and the pace is good. Unfortunately not enough. We can’t fight with that, our bike is at its limit,” said Quartararo.
