MotoGP News: Fabio Di Giannantonio continues to show progress in his first year as a MotoGP rider, he doesn’t hesitate to give a positive assessment of his performance.
Fabio Di Giannantonio is one of five rookies competing with experienced riders in the 2022 MotoGP. He is trusted to defend Gresini Racing and become Enea Bastianini’s partner.
Armed with a Ducati Desmosedici GP21 motorbike, the young man who is familiarly called Diggia was able to amaze the public. This is thanks to his success in winning pole position in his home race, the Italian MotoGP, which was held last May.
Di Giannantonio took several races to score his first points in MotoGP. Only in the French MotoGP series, the 23-year-old youth broke through the points zone by finishing 13th.
Later at Mugello, he finished the race in 11th position after the pole start. While in the Catalunya MotoGP, IA failed to finish for the third time this season. But the Italian rider is back on his feet.
Fabio Di Giannantonio posted his best result, securing P8 in the German MotoGP. This success was followed by a 14th place finish in the Dutch MotoGP, the closing race of the first half of the 2022 MotoGP.
That means he has collected a total of 18 points from 11 races that have been held this season. He is second in the rookie standings, behind Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46), or 20th in the overall drivers’ standings.
After a difficult start to the season, Di Giannantonio has shown steady progress. It’s no wonder that Gresini Racing still maintains him and dares to give a positive assessment of his performance so far.
“Initially I would give three points out of 10 for my performance. Then it got better. Now I dare to rate myself at seven or seven and a half. Hopefully in the second half of the season I can get eight and a half or nine,” he was quoted as saying by Motorsport.com.
“As a driver, I learned a lot of things. I have to understand how to use electronics during the race. It’s also about managing the weekend with the tires. When to attack,” he explains.
“I’m also making great progress physically. I now ride the bike more with technique than power. It helps me control the bike more easily,” concluded Di Giannantonio.
