MotoGP News: After rumors about Jack Miller’s successor continued to be a public discussion, Ducati officially announced Enea Bastianini as Bagnaia’s partner in the factory team.
Candidate teammate Francesco Bagnaia is the most discussed topic throughout the 2022 MotoGP. Especially after Jack Miller officially left the factory Ducati team and signed a contract with KTM starting in 2023.
Enea Bastianini also emerged as the strongest candidate after impressing everyone with his victory in the Qatar MotoGP. Even though he was armed with a 2021 spec iron horse.
The rider nicknamed La Bestia then added to his collection of wins in the US MotoGP and French MotoGP. This achievement of course makes him increasingly rumored to be getting a seat in the Ducati first team.
However, Jorge Martin was apparently also considered by the top brass from the Borgo Panigale manufacturer. This season the young Spaniard has never won the top podium. His best achievement was finishing second at Lusail.
Even so, Martin has scored one major podium when he dominated the race at the Red Bull Ring last season, the Austrian MotoGP. This achievement made him the Rookie of the Year.
Friday (26/8), Ducati briefly announced the recruitment of Enea Bastianini, who will assume the status of factory team rider and partner Francesco Bagnaia starting next season.
“I am happy to be able to wear the factory Ducati team colors from next year. It was my dream, and now it has come true,” said Bagnaia, quoted from Motorsport.com.
“In these two years in MotoGP, I have learned and developed a lot, and I believe that I can only improve with the engineers and people from the Ducati Lenovo Team,” he added.
“I will try to close 2022 in the best possible way before tackling my new adventure as a factory Ducati rider with total commitment and the right team spirit.”
Bastianini currently sits in sixth place in the drivers’ standings thanks to packing 118 points. The young Italian is 38 points away from Bagnaia, and only seven points behind Jack Miller who occupies P5.
