Cheah Liek Hou Targets 2 Titles at the 2022 Para World Championships –

Badminton News : Cheah Liek Hou plays it cool and won’t be pressured to look for multiple titles at the November Para World Championships in Tokyo.

Instead the Paralympic badminton champion has set his sights on reclaiming the men’s singles crown.

Cheah Liek Hou, who is currently in good form after winning 13 titles in a row, won his sixth world title in Ulsan, South Korea in 2017.

He also qualified for the doubles with Faris Azri but the duo will find it difficult to become world champions.

Liek Hou would have had a better chance of bagging two goals if he had qualified with new partner Fareez Anuar but they did not qualify for the big event as they have only competed in three tournaments.

“My main goal is to reclaim the singles title because it has been quite a while since I last won it. It won’t be easy because defending champion Dheva Anrimusthi (from Indonesia) will be out to frustrate me,” said Liek Hou.

“In doubles, Asri and I will give our best. Our fate will also depend on the schedule. If the singles final is held first, I can fulfill my goal and also try to win the doubles. “

“Otherwise, I would risk losing both of them. The priority is single which is my strongest sector.”

Malaysia will also have a strong representation in the men’s wheelchair singles (WH1) where current world number 1 Ikhwan Ramli has qualified with Noor Azwan Noorlan (WH2).

The Brotherhood, who has played second fiddle to Jeong Jae-gun several times, finally beat the South Korean to win last month’s Japan Open and will be optimistic about his first major crown.

Ikhwan/Azwan will also play in doubles where Malaysia will have another pair Chew Jit Thye/Choong Hong Sin who will pay their way for the Tokyo tournament.

Meanwhile, Didin Taresoh’s Paralympics may not appear despite qualifying in the SH6 category (short stature) because he is not part of the National Sports Council’s Paralympic program.

Didin competed in the Tokyo Paralympics last year but could not make it past the group stage.
