Carolina Marin Expects to Achieve 100% Performance at World Championships –

Badminton News : Carolina Marin often puts on her best for big events especially the World Championships and fans are looking forward to seeing if she can cast her magic spell again at this year’s edition in Tokyo.

The 2016 Rio Olympics gold medalist and record six-time European champion is the only women’s singles player to have won a hat-trick of titles (2014, 2015 and 2018) in the world. However, a dreaded ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) and meniscus injury to his left knee has paid off his supremacy since 2020. It also forced him to miss last year’s Tokyo Olympics.

The Spaniard returned with an emotional return to the tournament that catapulted him as a superstar in his hometown of Huelva last December but had to admit defeat to China’s Han Yue as his knee injury relapsed.

The world number 5, however, had a winning start to the year when he won his sixth European crown in Madrid in April and played in the Uber Cup Final in Bangkok last month. He also competed in the recent Indonesia Open where he reached the last 16.

While Carolina Marin is looking forward to playing in her favorite event again in Tokyo, the 29-year-old isn’t expecting a miracle but just a chance to have a good tournament, without being bothered by her knee.

“I was able to reach my 100% at the World Championships and this is one of the good points I want to take,” said Marin after beating France’s Qi Xuefei 21-7, 21-16 yesterday to set up a meeting with Denmark’s Line Kjaersfeldt.

“I still have a lot of time to prepare for the World Championships and want to focus on this tournament (Malaysian Open) first.”

“It’s difficult when you have two serious injuries to your knees and I wasn’t at my best. I need to try and keep improving my movement, hitting and confidence. My knee feels stronger in every tournament, but I don’t want to rush it,” added Marin.

Carolina Marin hopes to be injury-free at the Malaysia Open and Malaysia Masters next week rather than pushing too early for a World Tour title.

His break might come at the Tokyo World Championships, the tournament that used to be his favorite hunting ground.
