Badminton News : The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) hopes to bring in a psychologist in a bid to improve the mental strength of their players when playing under intense pressure on the court.
BAM’s director of high performance Tim Jones said it was important to add an internal psychologist as he could help treat 80 senior players as well as complement the specialists from the National Sports Institute (NSI) they are currently working with.
“It’s definitely in my plan (the psychologist) but the budget must be approved first,” he said after a meeting with the National Sports Council (NSC) yesterday.
“Even though at the moment we are using psychologists from NSI but, for me, I want to support him because we have a lot of players, so I think it would be better if there were others to help,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tim Jones informed that they are currently in the final stages of completing the process of recruiting a new doubles coach to fill the vacancies of the men’s doubles coach from Indonesia, Flandi Limpele and the mixed doubles coach, Paulus Firman.
“We can assure whoever we choose, it will be a good choice for us and definitely help us to deliver a medal when it comes to the 2024 Olympics in Paris,” he added.
On April 1st, Flandy Limpele made the shocking decision to leave the national badminton association when he did not renew his contract after two years while a month later, Paulus Firman resigned to spend time with his family in West Java.
