Premier League News: Arsenal have officially announced Martin Odegaard as their new captain ahead of the start of the 2022-23 season marked by the match against Crystal Palace on 6 August.
The last time the role was held by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, however, he was removed from the post last year before the Gabon striker finally left the Emirates Stadium in January 2022.
Alexandre Lacazette took on the armband responsibility temporarily until the end of the season and now Martin Odegaard has been selected to become Arsenal’s new permanent captain.

The 23-year-old joined the Gunners in January 2021, initially on loan from Real Madrid. After impressing at the Emirates Stadium, he was made permanent the following summer.
The attacking midfielder and captain of the Norwegian national team became one of the crucial players in Mikel Arteta’s team last season, with his creative ability and leadership qualities.
He helped Arsenal to compete for a place in the top four of the Premier League, although they ultimately failed to be tackled by Tottenham in their last three matches and had to settle for fifth place.
Former Guners player Adrian Clarke said the decision to appoint Odegaard as captain was the right decision for the North London club.
“I thought it was the right call,” Clarke wrote on Twitter.
“Excellent, fast-growing player who often sets the tone with the industry and its attitude. Hopefully the captain will inspire him.”
