Anyone travelling to Sri Lanka should be immunised against tetanus, diphtheria, polio and typhus. It is also recommended to have the vaccinations for hepatitis A and B as well as a malaria prophylaxis. Travellers are best advised to consult a doctor in good time prior to your departure. In addition to malaria, there is also the danger of contracting dengue fever in Sri Lanka, which is also transmitted through mosquitoes. The best protection against this is to wear full-length clothes and to use protection against mosquitoes. Most conventional medicines are available in pharmacies in Sri Lanka at very cheap prices, hospitals and doctors are reliable and carry a good reputation.
